Shipping animals across the U.S. is quite common. There are several available shipping options. In most cases animals will be shipped by some airline. Most commonly we use Continential, American and Delta airlines. To use these services the shipper is generally required to obtain a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian which helps to ensure that your animal will arrive in good health. It is important to know that most carriers impose certain restrictions on shipping animals based on weather conditions in both the cities of origin and destination. We will help guide you through the process. Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old to travel and older if they are tiny.
Another option we offer is: You are more that welcome to come and pick up the puppy, whether it be fly into the airport and I will meet you there with the puppy, where you would put it in a carrier directly under your seat and take him home (we need 24 hours notice please). Or you can come and pick up the puppy at our kennel. We are proud of our facility so we are always happy to have visitors. Our last option is to meet you half-way at the cost of $1.00 per mile one way. Must have 48 hours notice.
How much does it cost to ship a pet?
Generally we can ship a puppy for $250.00. This includes airfare, crate, health certificate, food dishes, puppy care package, anything needed to get the puppy to you that the airline requires. I personally deliver the puppy to the airline myself (This is an hour and a half each way). We can ship 2 puppies in the same crate for the same price.
Things we do to prepare our Yorkie or Chihuahua puppy for shipping?
We give the puppies albon for 5-7 days prior to shipping to help with the complications of stress. They also receive a small amount of Nutri-cal or karo syrup before boarding the aircraft to help in prevention of hypoglycemia.
